11/16/2010

We had a jam packed weekend with a wedding in Fort Wayne (John's cousin, Joy) and celebrating birthdays in Francesville. It gave us a glimpse into what the holidays are going to be like...I want to say it made me excited for the holidays...but it really didn't (wince). Traveling with the two kiddos was just frankly not that fun. They were all in all pretty good travelers. It was just so much work, and we didn't even spend the night anywhere!

John took Abigail to the PU basketball game. She was so excited. Now everytime we drive by Mackey Arena (which is at least once a day) she talks about how she went to a basketball game there with Daddy. John said at the beginning of the game he looked down at her and she was imitating the cheerleaders, clapping and holding her leg up. She had a great time.

Loads of Fun!

Wednesday John turned the big 3-0! I feel like it wasn't real exciting though I have to say. Middle of the week birthdays are kind of duds. He still had to work, but we made him a cake and a card (he found out what I was going to buy him and told me not to...he wanted his party to be the gift). On the card I had Abigail draw a "picture" and then I wrote on it. I asked her what she wanted me to write to Daddy, and all she could come up with was "Cake". She loves to celebrate birthdays! However, I have learned why, and it's that she gets to eat cake. :) One day after celebrating a birthday, she said completely out of the blue, "I love birthdays." I replied, "You do?" She said, "Yes. I love the cake...(pause)...actually, I love the frosting."

So we had such a fun weekend! Friday night John took Abigail to a football game. One of his good friends, Kurt, from high school is a head coach, so John took Abigail to his game. It was so cute. We got her all bundled up in her new winter gear (that I scrambled to get for her that day), and she drove off with Daddy to go her first football game. She was quite excited. She had new tennis shoes and everything :) (not because it was that special of an occasion, she simply had grown :)). John said she did great. She played with Camden (Kurt's son who is her age) most of the game and then sat on his lap for the last 5 minutes of the game. I love it when John takes her on "dates" like this. They have such a cute relationship. She really loves one-on-one time with Daddy. This year one of the books I have read is Bringing Up Girls by Dr. James Dobson. One of the many things I learned from this book is the father/daughter relationship plays such a vital role in developing a girl's spiritual, emotional, and mental health. I'm thankful John enjoys and loves spending time with Abigail as much as he does.

Saturday I took the kiddos for their first overnighter (together) to Grandmas!!! My mom so bravely agreed to take them both for the night because Saturday night we hosted a party for John's 30th at The Other Pub. We had a great time celebrating with friends - new and old. It was so nice then to go home to an empty house to partake in a full night of uninterrupted sleep. Ahhhh...Thank You Mom!

Then, Sunday was Halloween; so we got to dress Abigail up in her cute Tinkerbell costume and took her trick-or-treating. She was so cute. :) I love Halloween. Some people, I have to admit, make it weird with weird/scary costumes but I just have to say my cute daughter makes it so much fun. Last year she was a bumble bee. :) Last year was much easier because Abigail didn't get it - trick-or-treating that is. She didn't realize what everyone was putting in her pumpkin basket. This year however...she was ALL over it!  Her basket is sitting on top of the refrigerator to help remove temptation. :) We also found it was a nice bridge in getting to know our neighbors a little better. We have had some new neighbors move in over the past couple of months, so it was nice to make another small connection.

(This picture was taken at the end of the evening on my cell - here she is diving into the candy ;))

Abigail with the Johnsons - our fabulous neighbors across the street. Of course they spoiled her with a brand new pumpkin filled with candy, toys, book, etc. etc.

Abigail with the Meister boys. ;) Cracks me up - the difference between boys and girls. :)

Monday night John got to go to the Colt's game with his brothers and cousin Ben. Go Horse!
